Learning Catering for Diverse Learners
“Complemented by the rigorous analysis of year-level student data, teachers tailor-make programs of work to maximise the learning growth for all regardless of the level of need”
At Holy Cross School, educators take pride in delivering an authentic, fully inclusive curriculum that ensures each child can achieve their maximum potential across all aspects of their education. Supported by a meticulous analysis of student data at each year level, teachers craft customised programs to enhance learning growth for all students, irrespective of their individual needs. This commitment is reinforced by a dedicated Enrichment Teacher, a qualified Dyslexia Teacher, and two proficient teams of School Officers (Team Wellbeing for addressing social and emotional challenges, and Team Learning for targeted learning interventions).
In the era of digital learning, Holy Cross School embraces personalised, self-driven ‘flip’ learning platforms. Offering one-to-one devices for students in Years 3 to 6 and readily available shared devices in the lower years, Holy Cross School ensures that each child has access to a variety of teaching and learning settings. This commitment promotes fair access, regardless of their initial skill level, while simultaneously nurturing independence, self-regulation, and reflective practices.
Fostering a rich cultural diversity, students at Holy Cross School experience a vibrant array of languages, life experiences, and cultural histories. Specialised staff, including a Teacher Librarian, an Elder in Residence program, and three Inclusion Support Teachers, ensure that opportunities abound, guaranteeing each student discovers their ‘SPARK’ before graduating in Year 6.
Operational within a Care Team framework, the school’s staff utilises the expertise of a full-time School Counsellor and support staff (Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists) from Catholic Education – Diocese of Cairns. This collaborative effort provides guidance and support for diverse learners and students with additional needs.
As a proudly accredited Dyslexia School, Holy Cross School places the best interests of every child at the forefront of its growth and development.
