Holy Cross School Acknowledgement of Country
Our school was once beautiful forest Country with pristine waterways near the sea. The Yirrganydji and Djabugay people have cared for this area for thousands of years.
Their traditional languages, customs, stories, song lines and dances are interconnected with the Land on which we stand. We thank the Traditional Custodians for sharing their ways of living with and caring for the Land in this place we all now call Holy Cross School.
We pay our respects to the Elders past and present who empower today’s emerging generation.
Support in our school
Holy Cross School promotes and supports the unique and diverse cultural needs of First Nations students, their parents and communities. Through the development of quality relationships between child, teacher and parents, the uniqueness and giftedness of each student is appreciated and valued.
Holy Cross is focused on the holistic growth and development of each student, by recognising and affirming First Nations peoples’ culture in a faith based, welcoming, caring, relaxed learning environment. Teachers and staff recognise the great cultural diversity among First Nations families and communities, and value information and insight in how to integrate cultural diversity into the curriculum.
Holy Cross provides supportive classrooms and a school environment that encourages all students in diverse learning and supports their individual needs. Professional Learning is ongoing for all staff, and workshops for parents and carers of First Nations children are offered throughout all Catholic schools in Cairns.
