Holy Cross School is an integral part of the Northern Beaches Parish of Cairns. The Holy Cross Church and School are situated on Reed Road, Trinity Park. The site of the Church and School was once a sugar cane farm owned by Mr Tom Dillon. Mr Dillon originally purchased the land from a Mr Benn and then he sold this land to the Catholic Church in 1980.
The name Dillon has continued to be on the lips of hundreds of children who have passed through the school as it is the name of one of the four House Teams of the school. The other House Teams are Mallon, Robinson and Petersen. These teams are also named after early settlers in the Northern Beaches district.
Holy Cross School came into being because of the desire of the people of the parish to provide an education that also nurtured the faith life of their children. This desire was supported by the Bishop of Cairns.
In 1987, Holy Cross School commenced with an enrolment of twenty eight students in Years 1, 2 and 3. Mr Bob Scilironi was the first Principal of the school. The school has grown over the years and now has an enrolment of over 500 students. Holy Cross School has continued to be staffed by committed and dedicated teachers and school officers.
